Researching family names of Brierly, Campbell, Coats, Duncan, Eddy, Goulding, Grier, Grierson, Howe, Huffstutler, McCall, Pennington, Pierce, Pratt, Putnam, Stone, Thompson, Tracy, Warren, Woods, and many others.

This site is organized around the grandparents of John Brierly McCall (paternal: McCall & Campbell; maternal: Brierly & Warren) and the grandparents of Andrea Thompson McCall (paternal: Thompson & Woods; maternal: Huffstutler & Greer).  You can return to the home page and simply click on the pictures to follow each line.

This is my fourth major update of our family tree. Summer, 2009, I spent five weeks in Scotland and visited Argyllshire, from which our immigrant ancestor Argyle Campbell came. With my family, I explored  Kilmartin and found many old Campbell grave sites. Now with further research -- including DNA -- I find the more likely descent is from the Campbells of Barcaldine. So there will need to be (at least) another journey to the auld sod.

Previous research trips have taken me to Callaway County, Missouri, for McCall connections, and to Worcester County, Massachusetts to further explore Brierly and Warren cousins. I've borrowed and copied hundreds of pages of others' paper files, as well as family trees, artifacts and many photos.

With the major lines well established I'm branching out further. Here are the current challenges:

  • Digging deeper into the Campbell story - it looks as though Argyle Campbell was born in New York, not Scotland.…
  • Working with new DNA information for Andrea’s Thompson family line
  • Establishing the ancestors of Ebenezer Warren (born 1714 in Charlestown, Massachusetts). There's general agreement he's a grandson of Peter Warren, but disagreement about his descent from which son.
  • Resolving contradictory research about the identities of John Warren of Boston and John Warren of Watertown. Which came on the Arabella?
  • Documenting the McCall/Aiken home town in Country Antrim and their first residence in Pennsylvania in 1775.

I've added many more sources for various events in these lives and am happy to share them. As always, I welcome your comments and contributions and will be happy to respond in kind with any additional information and documents I may have.
