Robert H. McCall was born in 1752 in County Antrim, Ireland. He emigrated in 1775 at Ireland to Pennsylvania, near Gettysburg. He died on 9 April 1820 in Burke County, North Carolina. Robert was buried in Littlejohn Methodist Church Cemetery, Lenoir, Caldwell County, North Carolina. From "The McCall Family in America":
Robert, son of John and Helen Moore McCall, was born in Antrim Country, Ireland, in 1752. In 1773, he married Elizabeth Aiken, who was of royal decent. Her parents objected to her marriage with Robert, so he stole her out a window and they ran away and were married. Elizabeth was born in Antrim County, Ireland, in 1752.

Robert was a weaver by trade and could design anything for weaving. He designed a very fine linen tablecloth with the American Eagle on it and presented it to the king. The king took it as an insult, charged Robert with treason and ordered him arrested and beheaded. With the aid of some friends Robert managed to escape with his wife and six-month old baby. Some say they put him on a ship and labeled him as "potatoes." At any rate, Robert and family managed to sail from Clark County, Ireland, to America in 1775. They were six months in voyage. Upon landing in America, Robert's wife and baby made their home in Pennsylvania.

Robert enlisted in the Revolutionary War and fought for the duration of the war. He was a Colonel of a North Carolina regiment under General Daniel Morgan and was with him at Saratoga and at Yorktown and was also present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis.

After the war, Robert left PA and moved to Franklin County, VA. [Note added by George Goforth: family tradition says Henry County, as Franklin County was created in 1785 from parts of Bedford and Henry Counties, Virginia]. There he bought land and slaves.

Sometime after 1793, Robert sold his land in Virginia and moved to Burke County, North Carolina, on the Catawba River near what is now the Burke and Caldwell County line. He became a man of importance, owning a large acreage of land and many slaves. He was a Methodist class leader both in Ireland and in America, and it is thought that he was a convert of John Wesley. Robert died in 1820 and was buried at Littlejohn's Methodist Church in Caldwell County. His wife died in 1838.

[Following is the note from Glenn McCall, originally written by Dr. C. S. McCall in 1955]
In 1791 Robert McCall bought 200 +/- acres for 40£ on Timber Ridge near Glade Hill, Virginia. He sold this land to his son William McCall, in 1802. The sale was after Robert and all the family except William had moved to Burke County, NC. In 1817, William McCall bought 93 acres for $350, lying in the bend of the Pigg River. This is also near Glade Hill. William's will is on file in the Franklin County Court House, in which he wills slaves to his daughter, etc.

Sometime after 1793, around 1800 to 1801, Robert sold his land in Virginia and moved to Burke County, North Carolina on the Catawba River near what is now the Burke and Caldwell County line. Robert and his wife moved up to the Littlejohn settlement somewhat later, between 1812 to 1818. In 1819, Robert exchanged his Catawba River homeplace with his son James, for the latter's half [181 acres] of the Pearson lands. James moved back to the Catawba River, dying there. Robert deeded [Will and Deed] the Sealy's Creek place to Andrew Hull Tuttle.
