After working this farm for eighteen or twenty years he moved to a farm two miles down the creek, later bought an adjoining farm, and then another farm on the Linville River. Glenn McCall's letter says: "It is believed that two brothers made this trip together with one horse and a cart and that it took them the entire summer to go from Glade Hill, Virginia to near what is now Fulton, Missouri. This is believed to have been Robert H. and James E, who went west in 1834." NB: their wives were sisters. He lived in in Nine Mile Prairie, Callaway County, Missouri between 1837 and 1844. In 1850 James was an a farmer in Callaway County, Missouri. He owned three slaves in 1850 in Callaway County, Missouri. In 1860 he was an a farmer in Callaway County, Missouri. James owned ten slaves in 1860 in Callaway County, Missouri. He died of dystitis, after 15 years, on 25 December 1886 in Reform, Callaway County, Missouri. He was buried in Old Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Callaway County, Missouri. In 1834, moved to Nine Mile Prairie, (Also called Coats Prairie) Callaway County, Missouri, where he lived until 1841, when he moved to AuxVasse Township, 2-1/2 miles NW of Reform, Missouri.
